Felanitx, Majorca, 1946
Dedicated to painting since childhood, Andreu Maimó turned it into a vocation during his adolescence and decided to devote his life to it. Since then, he has maintained a profound connection with his reality, engaging in a constant learning process driven by his self-criticism. As a self-taught artist, his devotion, perseverance, and determination have guided his artistic practice.
Throughout his lifetime, Maimó has honed his observation skills by attentively observing his immediate surroundings. The more he observes, the more he discovers, realizing that he requires very little to find the abundance that fuels his artistic expression. The nature surrounding him offers fig trees, vines, and decaying fruit, which he repeatedly portrays in different states, from various perspectives, and using a multitude of techniques. His work is consistently fresh, meticulous, and imbued with sincere naturalness.
Initially drawn to Impressionism as a young enthusiast, Maimó later became influenced by German Expressionism. As he matured, his artistic vision expanded to encompass the underworlds and scenes that capture the countless and ever-changing states of nature, finding beauty in all of them. In the year 2000, he developed an interest in ceramics as a means to add another dimension to his work. His continuous experimentation has led to a mastery of technique, evident in the precise and delicate lines he employs. In 2014, portraits and self-portraits became part of his artistic repertoire.
Andreu Maimó's abundant resources enable him to authentically express what inspires him, transcending figures with the desire to share it and reach the public, all under his personal style and themes.
Maimó has participated in numerous group exhibitions in Mallorca, León, Madrid, Barcelona, and London from 1966 to 2011. Notably, he was involved in the exhibition "13 Pintors Neofiguratius a Mallorca" organized by the Conselleria d'Educació i Cultura del Govern Balear in 1984.
His individual exhibitions began in 1967 and have been showcased in Mallorca, Menorca, Barcelona, and Düsseldorf. One noteworthy exhibition was 'Andreu Maimó, quan l'art restaura la memòria' held at the Centro Cultural La Misericòrdia (Palma, 2017). Additionally, the exhibition 'El meu entorn' in the tower of Canyamel (Mallorca, 2022), curated by ABA ART LAB, presented a selection of his works in ceramics, oil, and engraving, in both small and large formats.
